It’s still ok to criticize it IMO because when one engages in it, one does it for a status gain *purely* within one’s ingroup. Examples of right-wing virtue signaling: buying an excessively large pick-up or more rifles than the members of one’s family.

I can *both* be deeply concerned about the Second Amendment rights *and* buy way more guns than I need purely as a virtue signal to my ingroup.
