If my experience generalizes, the perpetual darkness may be more salient. The UK would be wonderful if they’d just adopt my obviously sensible proposal to begin towing Britain south each September, ending just west of Senegal by the solstice; and back to arrive early May.

“Clear” is not characteristic of Britain in January either… Alternative proposal: erect a range of proper mountains—10,000 foot-ish—along the west coast. Rain shadow makes island habitable, plus huge economic win from construction, skiing, tourism.
