It's remarkable how sharp the borders are, especially in the western states.
Yes… possibly an artifact of one or more of (1) dubious data gathering methodology (2) western counties are very large compared with rest of the country (3) GIS interpolation method used. Interesting to compare the 1990 to 2000 maps. Vast swathes of the South stopped pretending to be religious during that decade. Consonant with my impression that this was for many/most a statement of class identity rather than genuine religious conviction.https://www.vividmaps.com/2018/03/faithland-1890-2010.html …
But a bit of a bounce back from 2000 to 2010?
I hadn’t noticed that—yes. And simultaneously a drop in the Midwest. Dunno what to make of either of those. May just reflect poor data quality.
