Didn't fall off this time, and for a reasonable fit on impeller hub.pic.twitter.com/olRU9bynIc
BTW, I almost drilled the wrong size hole, b/c I measured hub, then pulled out the right drill from the index and set it down on the bench.pic.twitter.com/8R3FyyeNCx
Then I picked up the drill, and decided to compare to the hub. WTF?pic.twitter.com/YEmWkw4AAR
Turns out the .500 drill was already lying on the bench, and I had picked that up instead of .468
It is surely a coincidence that the hub happened to be almost exactly 15/32 inch. The hole I ended up with is very slightly undersized, but I will deal with that fit later.
After hand deburring of the center hole it fits down on the hub fairly nicely.pic.twitter.com/zL0JVIRjWo
I have chucked the whole motor rotor assembly in the lathe for reducing the disk diameter and making sure it is nicely centered. This is a pretty floppy arrangement, but good enough I hope.pic.twitter.com/aXfB1j6Vlx
Hard to see from the calipers, but the fit in the housing is too tight because the molded housing tapers (as molded cavities usually do to allow it to come out of the mold). I think I want about 1.9 inches dia so crud doesn't get stuck between tip and housing.pic.twitter.com/ZPd2NzTMs5
I tried turning it down with just friction holding the disc in place. No, that didn't work at all, but seemed like worth a try. So temporarily attach with super glue.pic.twitter.com/ahRkH6l2JU
No, the glue idea was equally delusional. Not enough bond area, poor bond to plastic. But fits nicely on 1/2 inch threaded rod, even tho the hole is .030" smaller than the diameter of the rod. Because opposite to each thread peak is a trough.pic.twitter.com/wfPeyNRGf5
I’m going to have to work hard to resist making a blog post of commentary on this! (Would get your permission and input if I did of course)
Oops, the cross slide is hitting the disc. Maybe if I put the tool like this? No, duh, the disc is spinning the wrong way on that side. New to this lathe stuff.pic.twitter.com/SSmgMbHILI
