You should have an ethnographer looking over your shoulder so they can do a case study in “bricolage”!

Copper! Because why not? This is going to be artisinal AF. My guess is not worse than aluminum, which is the main alternative on hand. No stainless sheet.pic.twitter.com/J2QzPwniQt

Hole saw. A bit of bother with the chuck falling off, but nice copper circle about the right size.pic.twitter.com/qVbbA07o9n

Ok, the center hole got messed up because of the chuck misadventure. This will make its hard to center the final hole, so made another disc. This time clamping more carefully.pic.twitter.com/kBJDXOIBxV

Deburr on the convolute wheel, mainly because I don't want to cut my fingies. Final diameter needs to be a bit smaller.pic.twitter.com/Rm6doVlHTL

Chuck is still falling off. These things are held on by friction fit of a tapered shaft into a matching taper recess. I'm going to clean taper with solvent to see if that helps.pic.twitter.com/B14gkA2r6X

Didn't fall off this time, and for a reasonable fit on impeller hub.pic.twitter.com/olRU9bynIc

BTW, I almost drilled the wrong size hole, b/c I measured hub, then pulled out the right drill from the index and set it down on the bench.pic.twitter.com/8R3FyyeNCx

Then I picked up the drill, and decided to compare to the hub. WTF?pic.twitter.com/YEmWkw4AAR

Turns out the .500 drill was already lying on the bench, and I had picked that up instead of .468

I’m mentally classifying these moments in terms of the situated account of activity… this is an instance of “real-world objects do not come with convenient uniqueIDs” among other points

The pump housing is around the same size as the disc, tapers gradually so that the disc is actually too snug. I think I want the disc about 1.9" to give clearance at the vane tips so pieces of crud don't jam there.pic.twitter.com/MchFdww4w8
