Yes. It will be interesting to see what happens to the Tibetan religious community en masse as the oldest generation departs. Namkhai Norbu was for me the most interesting - due to his clear presentation of systems as method. Unlike others, his presentations were meta-systematic.

I came back from a “Dzogchen retreat” with a lama I didn’t know. Friend asked me about it. “Really nice guy, would be great to go drinking with him. Understands exactly as much about Dzogchen as does my stuffed hedgehog plushie.”

This has been my worry when researching Dzogchen retreats I want to go on. Like, I want a 'try before you buy' model and there aren't always talks available online for every teacher...

I guess that’s the same across fields: if you are motivated enough to figure things out, you understand the official script and its value. But you also understand how and where it falls down. That’s how you spot when people are regurgitating the script without getting it.
