Very roughly how many water molecules would you guess there are in a single cell? Within a couple of orders of magnitude? I got it quite wrong.

I think a familiarity with Avogadro's number is a useful yardstick for dealing with the nano world. But the lesson is that scale screws with the imagination. We can't really imagine what we cannot see - large or small.
