Overwhelming exposition of the enormity of science’s dysfunction. Key pointer toward solution:
> the best way to reorient scientists would be to pay them to *care about the problem*.
[Cf my cargo cult science piece.]

I tend to incline with the presented criticisms. In connection, I would like to mention that my country Finland has adopted a funding policy which favours technological "innovation" projects over basic research. This has been detrimental to the quality of science. Why? ...
-
... Because only certain disciplines can fit into that scheme, this leads to asymmetric spread of resources and a number of BS technology projects that only exist because it is technology and therefore "innovation". The legacy of Nokia at work.

Sincerity is what makes things work properly in any field. Without sincerity, you’re just going through the motions. Entropy lies in wait

I see a similarity in spirituality and philosophy, where theoreticians are sometimes criticized for not working to immanentize the eschaton (e.g. the MC's conflict in the Glass Bead Game)
