Colour is special stuff. Colour ended Wittgenstein's tractatus project and probably lead him into "weirdness" and the wilderness (literally) and attempts to migrate to soviet union and become a labourer. 10 years later comes "back" with PI. You knew this, right?
I didn’t know! (I’ve read only PI, not the Tractatus, btw)
Tractatus. Wittgenstein thought he'd presented a system that showed that atomic statements could match basic facts about world, we could take as axioms, from which all other things known. It's quite beautiful. The last book to be written on philosophy? Colour: mere detail!
He thought he'd done it. ALL. This minor colour thing would be solved later. But wasn't something that would stop/break his system. It's the best example I can think of of a rationalist system. It's beautiful. I wanted desperately to believe, obsessed with it for 6mths, 10yrs ago
That’s my impression of it (from descriptions in secondary sources). If you haven’t read PI… it might be worth a go! Since it’s his explanation of what went wrong, and what to do instead.
Anyway, seems there's a way of viewing that "lets go to russia and be a labourer" as 4.5 :)
