But the varying extents is important, surely. I'm shocked that some people could think that ALL science is ALL about power (I'm guessing in the non-statistical meaning of the word, otherwise they'd have a point!).
Yeah, some “social scientists” back in the 1980s claimed physics was purely self-referential, and that experiments were in effect cover stories for power-grabs that were actually settled by politics, not evidence. This is more true than it should be, but obviously not entirely.
