Their originators maybe never expected them to be much more than complicated inside jokes, intended to show off authors’ IQ to a dozen other academics. A good question might be “what made mass society receptive to ideas that weren’t meant for the masses? what need do they fill?”

I understood @everytstudies as saying that they’re all vaguely wrapped up as “pomo” in popular (mis)understanding. I think his point was that saying “actually, that’s no what ‘postmodernism’ means” is unhelpful, because it’s the vague package that’s culturally influential.
