That seems to be true for some (Derrida, Lacan?) but not exactly for everyone, surely. And the reason for adoption should be obvious given your own ideas, no? It offers a weaponized medium for expressing anti-systematic resentment.

@everytstudies as saying that they’re all vaguely wrapped up as “pomo” in popular (mis)understanding. I think his point was that saying “actually, that’s no what ‘postmodernism’ means” is unhelpful, because it’s the vague package that’s culturally influential. - 1 more reply

"Masses" has little to do with it. These words mean something to those trying to think, but are also used as ooga-booga scare words by the right. For the latter, there is no interest in fine distinctions, they all mean "elites" or "commie".
