Is Clemens a shortened name? My cousin shortened our Polish name to Clemens
-
Clemmons was actually stretched from the Clemons- and I believe it had to do with a family dispute over Samuel Clemons dodging military service... or so my husbands family legend goes. I believe it was French. Ruby however IS a shortened name from Poland (Russia at the time)...

How interesting that he was asked why 'he could be foolish and enlist.' Most citizens of other countries, active in that war, were praised for enlisting. In fact, two countries celebrate together to honor & praise their citizens for enlisting & their sacrifice in that war.

Canada while participating did not have a draft. Even with a professional degree he chose to enlist as an airman not an officer- and he left behind his accounting job. I think the attitude was that of the upper crust seeing soldiering as beneath him & them.
