The reason Cyberpunk reviews happened like they did is because it’s pretty normal to only have a week. It’s also not unheard of for publishers to have a preferred platform. If you look at Steam, the majority of user reviews are positive there - they line up with the critics.

i can't believe "sometimes developers send reviewers a copy of the game months ahead of time" made it to print in the nyt. don't they have fact checkers for this kind of thing?

I think three weeks is the absolute longest I’ve ever had, and that’s a huge outlier.

should've been: ''up to a month (but only if its a japanese game that's getting a late localization)''

Clearly they misspelled days. I think about 10 days is the absolute max I’ve had, although sometimes I’ve had more time but spread over months eg a one hour demo, a beta for a day etc. I had one code come so late I’d bought the game and done half the review before it arrived.

I haven’t written about games for a BIG publication yet but the earliest I’ve gotten a review copy is 2-3 weeks. It seems the longer the game, the shorter amount of time before release too. It’s weird and frustrating.
