    The Open Access Button has come so far in the past 8 years, and I'm SO EXCITED about this transition. captures the breadth of the team's current work (ShareYourPaper, InstantILL, OAButton) and gives the project room to grow as it continues to evolve.

    Major library vendors have built sophisticated, global surveillance systems and sell services based on these systems to governments. We must confront that dollars from library subscriptions, directly or indirectly, now fund these systems.

    A big NOPE from me. This is why it’s imperative to centre open science and scholarly communication innovations around equity. Otherwise we build machines that just amplify inequalities.

    Science requires *minimum transparency*, conceptually & ethically, but because it's NOT yet enforced, most research is still not reported transparently. To help solve this problem, we're launching a new & ongoing initiative: Researcher TRANSPARENCY AUDITS!

    Some thoughts on carrots: IMO for the last 10 years has focused on the *wrong* drivers / causes of closed research. Your workload is unreasonable and your contract is precarious. You don’t need an audit of whether data or code is available. JOIN A UNION ✊

    Weve used🥕to⬆️transparency for 25+yrs (eg CONSORT 1996). Its helped but today open data rates are abysmal (2-18% in psych/social sci/biomedicine). We FULLY support🥕but this shows we need MORE than just🥕orelse trust, credibility & value of our profession will only further erode

    I find it frustrating that in announcements like this, The Lens has messaging that makes it sound like *they* are open data (for example, the heading "Low Price & Open Data") but actually they are just *built on* open data. 1/n
