.@ratemyprofessor handy link to a report from The National Academy of Sciences showing females in academia face the highest rates of sexual harassment in the country outside the military, so um, yeah....take down the chili peppers and let us do our jobs http://sites.nationalacademies.org/shstudy/index.htm …

@ratemyprof Try rating professors on things less gross than boys my son's age oogling us. Like organization, availability, our TAs, approachability, prep for higher education tests like LSATs, GREs or MCATs. Things that are, you know, my job. Female Prof#MeTooSTEM#ScienceTooShow this thread

btw let me know if you want to write about this for Time Ideas
-
If I submit an essay that gets published, I'm gonna want that bulldog trophy.
-
Wait there a bulldog trophy??

-
I want a trophy!! If I was an adjunct professor but am now a PhD student, could I still write about it? And get a trophy..? I can also write about seeing my father's hotness rated on his
@ratemyprofessor profile... gross. -
No matter the stage of our careers, smiley faces, stickers, and trinket trophies still motivate/entertain us :)
-
I love stickers!!
-
Scratch and sniff cupcake stickers! Just like the dog here. I agree with
@ratemyprofessor removing chili pepper!#timesup

@McLNeuro The chili pepper rating is meant to reflect a dynamic/exciting teaching style. But, your point is well taken and we’ve removed all chili pepper references from the Rate My Professors site. -
You did the right thing and you did it quickly. Thank you. https://edgeforscholars.org/i-killed-the-chili-pepper-on-rate-my-professor/ … (Also, professors really like those chocolate dipped grapes on Edible Arrangements)pic.twitter.com/xoCBBCEPQ5

Plz who cares? I would only be happy to get chili peppers if i was a prof n i remember i had a female prof who was proud she got one. Keep it
@ratemyprofessor. Lets not be over sensitive about an emoji for crying out loud. -
Oh, to be so young and naive. (Read the responses to Dr McL’s tweet from other professors if you don’t understand why objectification of female instructors by students is harmful to their careers.)
-
Not super concerned by ignorant comments of a troll account with 15 followers. 16, sure....but 15, not so much.
-
I 100% support what you're saying about the pepper rating, but why these childish responses? You're protesting a superficial hotness score for professors, and then turn around and dismiss a dissenting opinion based on her number of followers?
-
You could have ignored the comment or engaged in discussion as
@DebMerriam did. Instead, you chose to belittle her. -

It's not really a Twitter lesson, it's more a "how to not be an ass" lesson

And while we're at it, let's drop it for male professors as well. Hotness (or not) should not be why people take my classes.
-
Agreed.
