It’s past midnight, so the MLK Day lip service is over. (While I am here, Lip Service is a great Elvis Costello song.)

There is, alas, a far greater readiness to honour Dr King as a symbol and embrace appealing principles than to effect concrete policy change.

They should have a Jumbotron in the House and show all their tweets while they present and debate the issue...

I'm sure the senator from kentucky that blocked the anti lynching bill will be all in.

They'll be too busy blowing apart and perhaps creating a couple new parties, one an overtly fascist and religious party, explicitly authoritarian and arbitrary guided by religion opinion, and the other a pro-business party. The coalition that Reagan built, shall file for divorce.

To them, democracy means getting to choose which MLK passages to tweet and honor, while disregarding the rest. Same way they read the bible

Intellectual integrity is not the forte of many well known leaders of that party!?

They do this once a year and then go back to their rotten old selves. They will not vote into law the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. They'll find some irregularities and just won't be able to vote for it.

And Chief Justice Roberts won’t be able to state there is no racism in the US after the last 4 years.
