I'd be angry if I were forced to pay partial dues to a union I didn't want to join for "providing" a benefit that I didn't ask for.

Particularly since my experience is that other people's "job security" generally translates into people who don't suck having to do extra work to cover for those who do. An employer who won't fire slackers is probably worse to work for than one who is fire happy.
