Was it an omen That I was born feet first Strangled with cord? I slipped open-eyed Like a broken eel into my Mother’s hand Bloodied Like a soldier Lungs bursting with cry My feet dressed in sandals Of mirth And poetry’s sword On high: Life’s knots untied

14 years ago today- looks a little serious in the pic. I think he’s just realised he will have to put up with my cooking for all eternity... and towering behind us is our first home- a Victorian terrace in Parkville and in my opinion, most certainly haunted!

The autumn moon shivered: Sweating in It’s bed of constellations Lit with fever Falling On dark bellies of Peat The soil flat: Humming with fantasies Of life Until the first nettles Sit up like Lazarus: Puff-chested children Playing Under the toothless sun

The Gordian Knot An oracle had declared that any man who could unravel the elaborate knots of the ox-cart in the palace at Gordium was destined to become ruler of all of Asia. Alexander the Great called out, "What does it matter how I loose it?" With one stroke severed the knot.

As we age, we forget that we used to play, that we dreamed of the future that there was sanity in the madness of the world We watch our parents age, they were once beautiful and invincible, now we see time for what it is and we are thankful for every day

The script of our life was forged In a copper mine Their picks And eyes Colliding between rock and sand Blind with ash they came to The surface As blind as rats Their arms conditioned to chip And crack Even in the sun And the black lung Of home

👏 🎶Blackbird singing at the break of day...🎶 And the eerie cry of the Curlew, halfway between shore & ocean... The discordant squawk of Galahs, tumbling at dawn, on the tin roof, & the electricity wires Birds are the music of my days. 🎼

The voice of a nightingale Ribbons through the dark Of dusk and dawn Curious in the quiet Pipes and warbles It seems Are formed in crucibles of darkness Stillness as large as elephant’s ears And as beautiful as the scratch Of an uncapped pen

I imagine it was cloud-grey: Sitting grumpily in the metal kidney dish Slightly deflated By the slashing thunderbolt Of the surgeon’s knife The pathology results Slapped like a tears on Light beds: Classing the aggressor Into size and spread We wait With darting eyes

When the hill range was young I would sit on the balcony Admiring it's woven green belt Snaking past spluttering tractors And Olympus’milky head By evening Sunset’s saffron threads Would fall beyond fields Of cotton and olive Hoping to catch it's Sandy soil in my shoe

At market Only the pristine will do: Testing avocado with Eye and hand My ears overwhelmed By vendor's overtures Splayed rabbits Pink and bare Recline on curled parsley Eyes amazed wide With death My hunt ends: “That one” I say While a man follows Much too close behind
