Mayor Greg Ballard’s Tweets

I hope 2023 is the year that the great middle of the country, the centrist Democrats, the centrist Republicans, and the independents begin to assert their voices more forcefully. We’ve let the extreme wings on both sides dominate the narrative for too long. #middleconservative

Elon Musk says he wants to increase freedom of thought on Twitter. Left-leaning pundits are using phrases like “the end of democracy.” What are they talking about?

A terrific article about our hosting the best Super Bowl ever.

Indianapolis didn’t need beaches and fancy nightclubs to host one of the biggest sporting events on the planet. Innovative planners here created one of the most widely praised Super Bowl experiences in recent history. indianapolismonthly.com/arts-and-cultu

I’ve been saying this for years. Companies move to where talent resides. Talent moves to a high quality of life. Much different than when I grew up. The point is to increase the tax base. You do that by providing a high quality of life for talent.

Here I explain that Indiana's poor and declining educational attainment, not our tax rates makes us unfit for the type of advanced manufacturing firm just announced in Ohio. Ohio didn't beat Indiana in the bid for 3,000 @intel jobs that pay $125,000 each. Indiana beat itself. twitter.com/SilviaAscarell…

All three of these women are tremendous. Two worked in our administration and one was on the Super Bowl Committee. This project is in good hands.

Please consider buying/donating fresh food to a local pantry. It’s much needed during these difficult times.

COVID-19 has shown that many of our Indy children have no access to the internet and no devices, so there is no learning in times like this. Crossroads and their partners have the data and are addressing the issue urgently. Please consider helping. I have. t.ly/GMezB

Smiley is another great guy. This looks like a great program. You can buy needed supplies from Amazon and have them shipped directly to Wheeler Mission to help the homeless during this crisis. They even tell you which items are most critical. People pulling together again.

So my razor hasn’t been used much lately and of course, no one is getting a haircut. I think I’ll let it go on a bit. Here is an artist’s rendition of what I will look like in a couple of weeks.

You may need some good books right now. Here are three well-researched (but very readable) books I’ve enjoyed recently. They will deepen your understanding of our past (Sapiens and Silk Roads) and provide a more complete (and positive) view of current trends (Enlightenment Now).

Walmart and Amazon are dipping their toes into healthcare. If either or both gets a low-cost workable model covering basic healthcare needs, the scale they could bring would be interesting. By the time R’s and D’s agree (never?), this could be impactful.

I spoke on this battle on its 50th anniversary. While doing research, what stood out to me was that nearly half of the Medals of Honor awarded to Marines in the Pacific in WWII were from this one battle. “Uncommon valor was a common virtue.”

Today marks 75 years since the Marine Corps launched an amphibious assault onto the island of Iwo Jima, beginning one of the bloodiest battles in our nation’s history. Join us over the next 36 days as we honor the uncommon valor that was a common virtue because #WeAreIwo.

General P.X. Kelley was a wonderful, kind man, a true patriot. He was an example of the best that America has to offer.
