Well, to be fair, the original quote is flat-out erroneous. Not all Linux systems have GNU dependencies, or implement the GNU system. See: Alpine (Busybox/musl by default), OpenWRT (ditto, and even uses its own bootloader), and many others, especially embedded.

Diversity is why we use the term Linux and not GNU/Linux. We don't care if your system is running GNU software or not; we just care about the kernel. If it's Linux, we support your system. Linux can refer to so many things beyond GNU/Linux, due to being only a kernel.
