A fascinating article about the real-world impacts of disconnected marijuana policy between state (legal) and federal (illegal) levels.
I feel bad for the residents of southern Oregon who clearly feel under siege.

The #environmental damage of illegal grows is immense. There are huge negative impacts on water due to waste and overuse. This is why we regulate businesses after all - because environmental protections are bad for the bottom line.

The big unanswered question I have after reading is why local law enforcement is so timid in enforcing threats, shooting, or environmental damage by growers. These grows are static: the police know where they are.
It raises concerns about corruption or incompetence.

To be clear, I'm in the pro-legalization camp at the federal level. Prohibition failed with alcohol and it's failed with marijuana. That said, how you decriminalize marijuana, and how you regulate the resulting legal industry, matters.
