Hi . If you’re elected as our representative for CA-01, will you help push forward legislation or process change to help our vets injured by exposure to toxic chemicals while serving? #burnpits

Yes. I worked the burn pits for two years in Iraq. It was just something the E1s-E6s had to do on rotation: one hour every night burning human waste and trash in diesel oil. At the end we were black-faced from soot.
My mom had to send out unit N95 masks. The Army messed up.

I'm healthy, by the way, as are most of the guys I served with - I don't blame the burn pits for the PTSD some of my friends got.
But we need to gather data and start tracking exposures. Who knows what the long-term effects are of breathing in that junk?

I’m very glad to hear that you’re healthy. I just watched Jon Stewart’s new episode which dove into this topic, and I’m ashamed to say I had no idea burn pits existed the way they do. We need action on this. Our veterans deserve better. ❤️
