The biggest killer of San Franciscans in 2020, by far, was drug overdoses. We will end 2020 w close to 700 overdoses, nearly 3x deaths of 2 years ago. Nearly 2 a day. There was mostly silence or business usual from city departments & Room 200. This was a brutal, shameful failure

Prohibition deters addicts from seeking the help they need and allows for dealers cutting drugs with contaminants and cheaper substances which directly leads to overdoses

SF basically allows both use and sale of any drug. Even with that decriminalization, our addicts still don't seek the help they need. Instead, they directly seek out meth and fent because those are cheap and powerful. The ODs are a result of people trying to max out their high.

Decriminalization comes up short, full legalization is necessary to ensure that all users can purchase pure products of a known potency from a medical professional who can advise on safe use, for many their drug use is a coping mechanism for problems which they can get no help

Under capitalism the essential first element of freedom is capital, without it you’re not free at all, economic independence from your employer means you don’t have to put up with poor working conditions just to survive, workers are empowered by a strong economic floor
