Rich countries consume more energy than poor countries. Poor countries need to consume more energy if they are to become rich.

This is unacceptable!! We must help those poorest countries so that one day they can emit as much carbon as the rich countries. CARBON EQUALITY NOW!!!

Unequal world of CO2 footprint
.
An average person among the richest 1% of people emits 175 times more carbon than their counterpart among the bottom 1%. CO2 Footprint
of a Rich nation like
is 19.7 tonnes/person, India is 1.5t/capita person and a Kenyan just 0.3 tonnes. -
#Waste is huge#emitter of#CO2footprint,
wastes 1.3 billion tons of food, 1/3rd of the total food produced, though 870 million people go hungry every day. Waste #CO2
is bigger than
. Wasted food costs $750 billion a year. We can #eradicatehunger if we cut waste. -
Two economists on diff. occasions told me that food wastage & hunger are not correlated. It's a myth. How food is used is nobody's business esp at individual levels. In fact, the more we throw & keep buying, the more we enable production & maintain farmers' wages :(.
-
Food waste isn't just a devastating misuse of natural resources, it's also a huge part of the world's carbon footprint, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
#FAO is credible I believe.pic.twitter.com/HqnmrgRfCv

And we still have a lot of people struggling for food!... This world is a comedy, unfortunately!

Wastage and entrenched indifference towards plight of needy part of mankind.

If all these countries full of envoirmentalist had just adopted nuclear the whole problem would have been done by now. But its envoirmentalist who prevent this. We live in truly absurd world.

Maybe that's why they're the poorest ?

Amazing that China can produce everything in the whole world, and yet still have much lower per capita emissions than must of their export markets.
-
The map fails to highlight an important aspect of the underlying data: it’s looking at “consumption-based emission inventories”, so every ton of emissions created in China for, say, US/EU consumption is tallied against the US or EU - as it should be.
-
That is an important aspect. But it's wrong to tally it like that. It is China that is doing the emitting.
-
I suppose two maps is the only way to really show the two perspectives, but I think the consumption-based one is more important. It captures globalization of manufacturing better. If US moves a factory to China, direct US emissions improve but it’s just an accounting trick.
-
I don't follow the rationale for accounting for emissions in that manner. I would think that, presumptively, emissions should be charged to the country actually emitting the pollutants. It's hardly an "accounting trick." What's your argument for doing it otherwise?

Economic development has a price to be paid. Though environmental caution is also vital.
