Austria has now the highest rate of confirmed cases in the world. And the rate is still increasing. Testing is very poor (the positive-rate is 22%) so that the true number of cases is much higher. Austria now decided to implement a stricter lockdown: https://orf.at/#/stories/3189768/ …pic.twitter.com/Wvk78g2sDP

Austria has the highest rate of all countries with a population over a million people. Andorra currently has a rate of over 1000 per million, but a small place with 76,000 people has obviously very volatile case rates. This curve shows the number of deaths in Austria. The average over the last week were 40 deaths per day. In the last wave in Austria it took roughly 2 weeks between the peak of cases & the peak of deaths. If this is roughly the lag between diagnosis and death then Austrians who are dying now were confirmed as cases about 2 weeks ago. The case count then was about half of today.

Postive rate in Poland today is 47% and our PM @PremierRP and Health Secretary @a_niedzielski make no efforts to increase testing. >60k tests in population of 38 mil. Is this not dereliction of duty? We are doomed :(

We have with @sebastiankurz unfortunately a literally uneducated person as chancellor. He never learned or practiced any profession or finished a college. So he's highly unqualified to manage an pandemic. Greetings from Vienna.

Oh, interesting! For a second I wasn't sure if Austria was actually #1 because I remember seeing staggering counts from Belgium and Czechia two weeks ago. But you're right, they've actually fallen far since then, and Austria has just kept on rising to #1... scary stuff.pic.twitter.com/Jk6TZaK1ub

As Switzerland is not reporting cases over the weekend it's impossible to say if Austria or Switzerland is leading.
