While the number of scientists and engineers increased hugely over the last decades, the rate of innovation did not increase nearly as much. Why is this? What could we do to change this? @patrickc is on the latest episode with @EconTalker to discusshttp://www.econtalk.org/patrick-collison-on-innovation-and-scientific-progress/ …

Population of London in 1600 was 200,000. Why doesn't every town today have a Shakespeare? Population of all England 1700 was 5m. Where are all the Newton? Have always wondered how much innovation occurred at such low populations.

Shakespeare was from Stratford Upon Avon, a small town near Birmingham. Probably much, much lower population

We could escape the framework of capitalism determining what gets researched and the silage of knowledge with open-source development and open publishing. But we could also be more able to work on things if we weren't in poverty from capitalism managing the people like livestock.

In regards to this Prof Donna Strickland, Noble Prize winner in Physics in 2018 has hit the nail on head: Scientists need more time & funds to THINK! Pressure of business results in industry & publications in academics have taken away what Newton & Einstein had: time to THINK!

        - Low hanging fruit is gone? - IQ remains approx constant, while complexity of the technology increases exponentially? - Because education is optimized for the "median" individual and a lot of potential talented is wasted/ under-performing?
