The goal is to preserve the child, and fortify the child, to allow the child to become themselves, and in that becoming to make the best possible choices for themselves. That's the goal. /5

A human being is not a decoration- formed and sold. They are a unique being that grows and CHANGES constantly through their life. People regret tattoo's they get as adults for God's sake. Prepubescent castration? That's not child abuse? /6

I understand you were reacting to my radiation statement, and I'm sorry for ranting. But I've heard this treatment compared to childhood cancer before, and I might have gone off half cocked. /7

Yeah, definitely not comparing it to cancer. My only point is that if the child has started puberty, the family has done as much research as is reasonable, and a doctor is willing to administer the required drugs/procedure I don't see how it is the state or my business.

Ok. Let's suppose a lawless nation. Next, let's say a child is at puberty, and has elected to kill themselves. The parents are on board, because they want to respect their recently hormonal child's wishes. A Doctor agrees, because they too wish to respect autonomy. Is this ok?

I am not sure cancer treatment or suicide are a fair equivalencies. We can discuss why, but I would hope that is not necessary.

Life altering, irrecovable, procedures should not be administered to children unless absolutely necessary. What would be absolutely necessary? Well, a child who loses a testicle cannot get a prosthetic one until they are an adult, for instance.

So we should make circumcision of minors illegal? Hmm. It's currently administered to countless infants every day and I don't think infants can consent.

Perhaps tradition has blinded us from the immorality of that. I think this has changed my mind on that subject.

Good. I find circumcision to be outmoded, but if a pubescent child wants a procedure & his family condones the choice & a physician who has taken the Hippocratic oath is willing to perform the procedure then I don't think the state should step in, except in some extreme cases.

Ok. Well, I certainly do not agree with that. This isn't a matter of the child knowing, and then gaining consent. This is a matter of being physically incapable of knowing. The fact that the parents and a doctor could be so foolish as to assume the impossible is irresponsible.

And you keep mentioning the State. Mind you, I'm coming from a libertarian perspective. However, when it comes to the mistreatment of children, I necessarily draw a line. The nebulousness of "abuse" is an issue.

If there were a going fashion of being handicap, and if your child was handicapped they would be risen in status, and then your child wanted to have that status, and you then consented to permanently alter that child...for mental health reasons... I can't agree with this.

I have no idea what this hypothetical scenario is meant to make me realize. Very confused here.

I'm trying to establish a principal. The principal being "Do not mess with a child's natural body by introducing unnatural substances, for any reason, other than preserving the child's life."

Why? Because the child is not yet an adult, and therefore cannot make those decisions for themselves.

Which is why this would require parents or guardians to sign off on it and would require a licensed physician to perform the necessary proceeds or prescribe the necessary drugs.

Let me ask you this; If a parent believes it best for their child to be castrated in light of their religion, and the child consents having been brought up in that religion, should that procedure be allowed by a doctor of that religion?
