R.I.P. the Moscow Carnegie Center. A small loss among numerous losses recently, but back 20 years ago it was one of the liveliest, intellectually, centers in Moscow.

In the beginning of the war I said that Putin’s aggression will drive Finland and Sweden to apply for membership. I said it was not a matter of days or weeks, but months. Time to revise: Finland will apply within weeks, latest May. Sweden to follow, or at the same time.

We hear about it a lot. What we hear less about is how much Ukraine has improved in recent years. Ukrainians have elected a president whose campaign was based on unity across identities. And this president is of Jewish descent.

Russia’s rights of membership in the UN Human Rights Council has just been suspended. War criminals have no place in UN bodies aimed at protecting human rights. Grateful to all member states which supported the relevant UNGA resolution and chose the right side of history.

Yes, the actual nazis, who have always been very open about their views, are “denazifying” Ukraine on Putin’s orders as we speak.

The only way to avert Russian war expanding beyond Ukraine is to provide us with the fullest support. Maximum sanctions. All the weapons. The policy of ‘not provoking Putin’ has failed badly in past years. Help us contain this evil now or risk Putin testing the article 5 later.

My updated (as of 1900 BST) count of US and European expulsions of Russian officials since the war began. Most but not all are suspected intelligence officers. The total figure is now a staggering 398, of which 385 are European. Largest co-ordinated expulsions in history.

We need to spend more on defense. But our situation is one of necessity: more like fixing a falling roof or flood-proofing the basement. Arguing for global military dominance now is like trying to add a new wing to your house during a flood while your roof is falling in. 1/

Seems that every person I know in has stopped speaking Russian. Some friends in Central Asia are also trying to avoid it. Great job defending the Russian language and Russian speakers, Putin! Brilliant planning there, mate. 🤦‍♂️
