So it looks like the 4-day 1st war of Brexit is officially over: Brexiters got all excited on Brexit day as Guernsey banned French fishermen. Everything was fine till Guernsey fisherman went to process their fish in France. France refused, the fish rotted & now the war is over.

For no better reason than it's my favourite part of the country, and he painted it so marvellously, here are four Sussex images from Ravilious. Top left to bottom left - Belle Tout, 1939. Chalk Paths, 1935. Beachy Head, 1939. Cuckmere Haven, 1939.

Mont St Michel was originally called Mont Tombe, this adjacent islet is called Tombeline. Along with Mont Dol these would have been part of the Ice Age landscape of Neanderthal hunter, rising out of the forests and marshes

Seven hours in the belly of a cross channel ferry. Windowless, rocked by waves, the hum of diesel turbines beneath the bunk. Drifting in and out of sleep & the dreams ideas of et al. Feel pressured to disemark. Thks

The view from Mont Dol. So much in this view that would have been part of the Neanderthal geography of La Manche
