If Americans are trying to make sense of this chaotic, delayed, uncertain Iowa mess, a reminder about the raison d'etre of Biden's campaign, and why it is particularly significant in processing the results when they ultimately emerge:

Politics had its 36-hour run on my Twitter feed, for reasons I think we can all understand. Now back to college sports. Plenty of stories posted at , including this one:

Last tweet on politics for now (with tonight's tweets focusing on college basketball): should not post partial results today. The next results posted should ONLY be the FINAL results, whenever they are ready, WITH PAPER DOCUMENTATION OF ALL CAUCUS SITE TALLIES. Fin

The fact that this specific process -- collecting all paper verification of local site results -- has not been completed by midday of the day AFTER the is staggering.

One concept most Americans DO understand is that there is a revolving door between government and the private sector, depending on the person and/or party in power. Now, Americans need to connect THAT awareness to what illustrates below:

Easy, contrasting dualities -- "government BAD, private sector GOOD / private BAD, government GOOD" -- are both inaccurate and unhelpful. It's more about government having cozy relationships with the private sector in the self-dealing mentioned

This is an important truth which our broader political culture doesn't yet (fully) understand, but soon might.

I'm tired of people telling me the government is slow, bloated, inept, inefficient, indifferent -- and the private sector, the opposite.

My 2AM assesment: there doesn’t have to be a “plot”... these institutional failures happen as function of corrupt self dealing, which enriches those who are close to the levers of power and spews out incompetence paid for by everyone else.

I know are dead now, so we don't have to worry about this in the future, but here's how it shoulda gone: Every site has an ID # Site ID# 1: Post the results. Site ID# 2: Post the results. We'd spend 4 hours for 1700-ish results to get posted. What am I missing?

This is what is so baffling about the . We're not talking about millions of votes. We're talking roughly 200,000-ish votes at roughly 1,700 small sites. Hand-counting on paper and reporting them should be a straightforward process. Site results get posted 1 by 1

I have been DM-ing a person on the ground in Iowa who spoke off the record. Apparently, the Iowa Democratic Party didn't *initially* set up an e-mail address through which local sites could post their verified results. Only AFTER the app crashed did that happen!

. is known among football fans for the truism, "Don't use a spread formation simply for the sake of using a spread formation." The taught us, "Don't use a complicated app simply for the sake of using a complicated app."

Someone said last night that just because one can make software for products related to an election or various other things, one shouldn't actually DO that. Complex computer technology isn't the answer to every problem, only the problems which need it.

There is a beauty in a bunch of busybody Dems getting together to improve procedures for a convoluted caucus process, only to have the entire apparatus burn to the ground. Sometimes less is more. And just because something is important doesn’t mean it needs to be complex.

It’s just so typical in Democratic politics that anyone tied to Shadow denies any responsibility for Shadow. No one’s at fault. These things just happen.

What Iowa did (among other things) was to confirm the belief many Americans already have: MY VOTE DOESN'T MATTER. It is baked into so much of our presidential election system, including the primary & the general. It erodes Americans' faith in institutions. That's the big story.

One could make the argument the Democratic nominee should camp out in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, & Iowa, with an occasional trip to Virginia & North Carolina+maybe Florida. 5 to 8 states. You don't have to agree with this, but it's certainly a valid line of thought
