same thing in california, which actually has a quite progressive tax system and keeps the middle and working class tax burden reasonable (of course, this to heavy tax system is quite screwy when it comes to the volatility of its revenues...)

I wouldn’t call either progressive. Not with prop 13 still being a thing. NY is probably the worst. Highest property taxes combined with top 3 income tax. I need to pay for a 600K+ house and then pay 13K a year in property taxes and people wonder why the young are leaving.
