1) You are miserable and in despair, and you want others to feel the same as you. 2) You don't really completely believe what you say you believe. You believe that life has some transcendent purpose and meaning, and you believe religion interferes with it.
If the first is the case, you are just a cruel and horrible person. If the second is the case, you are not really an atheist. I'm not sure I can see any third explanation aside from these.
You seem certain that atheists are more miserable than believers. Can you provide some evidence for that? Seems like a straw man to me...
I think a third explanation would be that they feel “religion” is what’s “wrong” with society and the basis for countless wars. So, if they can “convert” a believer into a non-believer, I think they believe that a lot of society’s problems would go away.
People can pursue religion and believe in fairy tales all they want. That doesn’t change the fact that it is made up and essentially meaningless
And to many, it’s not. So to tear down their beliefs to make oneself feel better is meaningless more-so if they aren’t doing it to non-believers.
