Crazier alternative. This one is truly nuts, stick with me. EF hires a marketing person/team.

The
@ethereum foundation taking responsibility for#Ethereum marketing seems even *more* unlikely than them funding the MarketingDAO, so I know where I'll invest my effort.1 reply 2 retweets 26 likes -
Agreed. IMO, "Ethereum marketing" isn't in the EF's mandate, beyond marketing its own R&D, funding, and educational activities. This is something which the wider community must take responsibility for.

No to marketing. Please YES to more spending on communications.

Thanks for chiming in! If you have time, could you give examples of bad marketing, good comms, and something that you would consider split but just on the bad marketing side?

Imma chime in before Bob LOL. Comms -> spin -> marketing -> propaganda are in this spectrum driven by intent and outcomes. Wikipedia is a strong example of communications. Leni Riefenstahl's "Triumph of the Will" represents an extreme type of marketing (and a war crime).

Yeah, so to my mind what you are aiming for is having high quality, accurate information. So that everyone has the same facts. So that people aren't confused about basic information on the platform. Having a good landing site and regular, useful outbound updates.

Another part of good communications for the EF would be to crank the dial up *a lot* on transparency into the Foundation's own funding, operations and governance, which are still terribly opaque.

US-based 501(c)(3) entities like the
@linuxfoundation have to file 990 reports each year, like these: https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/460503801 … I am just in the process of filing the first of these for the@ETCCooperative. We are minnows.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Others, like
@Aion_Network Foundation, are doing a great job with their own voluntary transparency reports. But there is essentially no public information on the EF. Why not? I suspect that the answer is just that it has never been prioritized, with nobody having FT comms role.1 reply 1 retweet 15 likes
I’d volunteer to do it for the EF if I had access to the data
