“The average time it takes to get through the permitting process in San Francisco is nearly four years. There’s little to no consistency in the time frame of these approvals however. Some projects take as long as 14 years to be approved.”https://twitter.com/sfexaminer/status/1223999604913528832 …

But then how would Supervisors force developers to make concessions to neighborhood groups for "community benefits"?
-
These projects are getting held up and slowed down overwhelmingly within the bureaucracy, permitting etc before they get anywhere near a supervisor, and most of the issues in the bureaucracy (business or building permits, inspections etc) almost never involve supervisors at all.

Exactly! We need to streamline the process with objective standards that apply equally to everyone.

I came across this one last fall: a coffee shop tried to fill a D6 retail space near me that’s been vacant for 6 years. Planning Department dragged the conditional use process out for the better part of a year, and eventually the coffee shop gave up.https://twitter.com/zachlipton/status/1192581533971947520 …

@sashaperigo San Francisco development is mired in overlapping bureaucracy? That leaves little question, then, that the larger solution for housing is to make it purely public-developed, guided by clearcut principles like "where housing is needed in the community". -
I mean yes, I agree! I think there are process improvements we can make that would help substantially in the meantime, but this is the logical end of my argument.

Would love for you to dig into
@sfplanning’s discretionary review reform project from 2008-2010 that was never implemented. Why? And why did details get removed from their website?? https://sfgov.org/sfplanningarchive/discretionary-review-dr-reform-outreach … - Još 2 druga odgovora
