If they were so ill they were 'unfit to drive' (Highway Code, rule 91) 260+ miles, especially with a 4 year old in the car, endangering them and other road users. If they were fit to drive, they were able to look after their child and not break lockdown. There is no defence.

Different circumstances entirely. A small child at risk of being isolated with two sick parents who may have become severely ill is not the same as a visit by another adult for a sexual dalliance.
