This is brilliant news - just imagine how many lives can be saved when we know the genetic risks we face.https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/dna-testing-at-birth-will-be-available-for-everyone-wbmn0zjwz …

Lots of scared mothers wondering if it’ll show up who the real father is.

And just 1 step from testing pre-birth and vastly increasing the abortion rate for babies with undesirable traits?

If it’s not secure and publicly held, it shouldn’t be done.

Is that the start of a plan to introduce dystopian eugenics? What about lives that cannot be saved because of genetic risks where no intervention possible? What about counselling for parents?

Yes, and just think how much Alphabet, Pharma and the US Health Insurance industries will pay for that data. Pleasing to see you are on track with your plan to make the NHS the biggest seller of data Matt, tell everyone its “for your own good” then sell ‘em down the river.

Reading our genetic makeup is part of the picture. Identifying the ‘problem’, identifying the solution to the problem and then funding the treatment for it are equally as important. And then the ethics. Research has been decimated due to Tory Brexit policy, as has funding.

I’m not sure it’s as simple as that. Babies can’t consent. What if the future adult would prefer not to know their risk of getting a long term condition that has little or no treatment? What about unnecessary treatment as a result?

Babies cant consent to vaccination either but we still give them because as parents we do whats in the best interests of our children. Forewarned is Forearmed. Also it says available not mandatory.
