Loved @danbalz interviews in Obama->Trump country; dominant election attitude was dislike of Dem move from class to race message; under Trump, they’ve seen & disliked chaos, bigoted statements, & little action, but media & Russia reinforced views of Demshttps://www.washingtonpost.com/classic-apps/a-year-in-trump-country/2018/05/10/2b25bfa4-428d-11e8-bba2-0976a82b05a2_story.html …

voters can simultaneously: 1) dislike Trump’s loud bigotry 2) dislike Dems’ harping on it 3) perceive that Dems used to care about white working class, now only care about minorities 4) mistrust Republicans on class, but perceive Trump as different In fact, pattern seems dominant

“Bigotry” & “harping” are summary of voter perceptions fed by media coverage, not my independent assessments; #1 neg thing voters said about Trump (even Reps & Trump-voting Dems) was he’s racist or loud mouth; harping perceptions come up repeatedly in interviews in Balz article

Lots of online comments argue either 1) Trump didn’t say bigoted things! Or 2) Clinton ran on economic message, not diversity! But don’t hear either from voters in Obama->Trump areas. Narrative crystallized (only Hillary is curropt liar & Donald inexperienced also broke through)

The question is what creates this perception. It's not a new one. "limousine liberals" only care abut "those people" was common enough before Trump

Democrat leadership never cared about anything but their own power expressed through big government.

So that is why LBJ pushed for civil rights and Bill Clinton expanded the EITC.

Seems either nobody told the white working class in rural areas that they were the biggest winners under ObamaCare and the biggest losers when freshly elected GOP pols pass "right to work" laws, or they didn't believe the media who did. Please report on policy in the heartland.

Apparently they’ve figured out that’s not the case. I think the bell rang with $6k deductibles and then being called a racist for complaining about it.
