But actually it is just a system to write down four digit numbers without using a 0 but a fixed place left and right of a central line. We could argue that we have digits for any number by just joining the digits with a line from left to right.
above/below an implied horizontal line, too it's neat they used base 10. in theory they could have extended this to 6 digits, because "middle" can exist vertically in theory, but who needs to fully count to a million?
I guess zero is just the long vertical stick then? or should it be no stick at all? ;)

Wow! I'd never heard of anything like this. It's pretty logical and coherent. It's a base ten system without a zero, but with some elements of place value. I need to do some exploring.
