yes, but that is thankfully a mistake that somebody else made. ok, I'll go again: I didn't realize that other people have feelings and desires and lives separate from their interactions with me, until I was, like, 24, and even now I still often forget it

It is one of the easiest things to forget, that we are not living in a Ptolemaic social universe, with ourselves at its center, and all other beings rather remote, abstract, quintessential things of questionable reality. We begin life as egoists, and tend to stay that way.
