"This whole convo" is being had exclusively by MEN in my mentions. If that's the whole point of the film, women are not part of that picturehttps://twitter.com/morosechestnut/status/921242694311067650 …

I hate rag on this--I liked parts of the movie--but I don't buy the argument that BR2049 is examining the objectification of women. At all.

If it were, I think it might bother to include a female character who a) is 3 dimensional b) has inner life & c) comments on this structure

All films should include a female character who's 3-d, has an inner life, and an articulate critical awareness of her social circumstances.

Because life itself includes so many such female characters, and films, to move us deeply, must be rooted in the genuine stuff of life.

Is that what you thought about Magic Mike? That it was missing a "strong female character"?

Yes, actually. I think that was a flaw in Magic Mike. Of course there are great films without female characters. Twelve Angry Men, say.

My point is that they're rare, because life includes women, women are people, and people are complex. Films move us by resembling life.

I entirely agree, and regret that these are so rare and difficult to conduct in this medium. A superb advocate & practitioner is @brielarson
