Charity evaluation is a tricky business, as is philanthropy in general; maximizing good done per dollar spent is hard.

So many things conspire against the effectiveness of charitable giving: corruption, faulty infrastructure, unknown unknowns

None of this means one shouldn't give to charitable ventures, of course. It just means that one can't expect perfection.

Indeed, one should expect a lot of imperfection. Neither GiveWell nor Bill Gates has a stellar philanthropic track record.
