@WriterobinRS Ms. Swicord, may I ask why films are so often adapted from novels, and so seldom from short stories, which fit so much better?
@WriterobinRS Which seems to me to point the moral. Contemporary film is just too small a vessel to contain a novel-sized story and cast.

@MathPrinceps The purpose of a film adaptation isn't to contain all of the myriad aspects of the book, but its essence. Allow for failure. -
@WriterobinRS I guess what I'm proposing is that adapting a novel for film is seldom compatible with preserving the essence of the book.
