One trick for avoiding Twitter mobs is to try to arrange that no individual tweet is exciting as the subject of a quote-tweet. E.g. mention the topic in one tweet, then say the dangerous thing about it in the succeeding tweet, but merely using a pronoun.

I avoid Twitter mobs by talking mainly about math and physics. If you include equations in your tweets, or words like "cohomology", I think you're pretty safe.

"Words like 'cohomology.'" Sigh. We're to rely on shibboleths, then, are we? Salvation attained by ostentatious and forbidding displays of mathematical erudition leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But of course it's still better than damnation.

I guess no joke goes unpunished. You know my tweets. I avoid jargon as much as I reasonably can. I'm still sufficiently boring that I don't get attacked by raving mobs.

Sorry. I guess I get demoralized sometimes, and lose my sense of humor. I certainly don't mean to accuse you, of all persons, of gratuitous displays of erudite obscurity. You are on clearly the side of the angels. But it's sad if we must retreat to mathematics to escape trolls.
