I've been flying back and forth across the Pacific for more than twenty years. I can't count the number of times I've been in your predicament. I doubt there's any simple remedy; I've tried lots of things, and none is consistently good. I recommend breath-counting for insomnia.

Overall, I'd say: go to sleep when you're sleepy, but eat only at times appropriate to your time zone. Heroic struggles to remain conscious haven't made things better for me, and I've never been able to figure out what dose of melatonin to take; getting it wrong is v. unhelpful.
