To this I can only add that I think it's best to be patient with yourself. It just takes a while to recover from jet lag, no matter what you do. No amount of moral fortitude accelerates the process; stiff upper lips are of no real help. Neither, in my experience, are drugs.

Overall, I'd say: go to sleep when you're sleepy, but eat only at times appropriate to your time zone. Heroic struggles to remain conscious haven't made things better for me, and I've never been able to figure out what dose of melatonin to take; getting it wrong is v. unhelpful.
