To my math friends: Apprenticeship of a Mathematician, by Weil, is unavailable to borrow at the library, and I am reluctant to buy any more books for space reasons. Have you read it? Worth the effort to buy it and find space for it on my already overcrowded shelves?

A great book. Though Weil was surely reluctant (and perhaps unable) explicitly to portray himself as he was (i.e, brilliant, prickly, and severe), nevertheless he was, like most memoirists, more revealing than he intended. If only he had said more about his early gropings!
