Performed by the Platters. Written by Otto Harbach and Jerome Kern. The lyrics also featured "chaffed", which you don't find in a pop song every day.

Worth stressing that the Harbach-Kern song comes from a musical, Roberta, dating to 1933. The Platters got to it much, much later. In the 1930s, you had P G Wodehouse cranking out song lyrics for Broadway musicals. Those were heady times in American popular song.
