So, for example, contemporary mathematicians may speak of a "calculus of formal power series," or of a "Blissard-Lucas symbolic calculus," or of any number of other specialised "calculi" (the Latin plural), with no relation to rates or areas or motion.
But it's certainly true that the best-known and most widely-used form of calculus in all of mathematics remains that given us by Isaac Newton (and very soon thereafter, essentially independently, by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.) So it's often simply called "the calculus."
