@naval I am fan of your work. I am seeking support in developing my reading skills. Growing up didn’t read a lot of books and now realize the importance of vicarious reading. I struggle with either finishing the book too fast without comprehension or too slow to lose interest.

What would you recommend to me if I want to read with comprehension without losing interest?

Replying to @cluless
Read books that explore questions that you are genuinely curious about. Only you will know which topics. If you’re reading too quickly, the book is too basic. If reading too slowly, it’s likely too advanced. It’s like finding the right form of exercise and the right intensity.

It is a mistake to suppose that interests and curiosity exist independently of and prior to external stimuli. This might be true of a certain faculty of susceptibility to some particular class of stimuli. But no one emerges from the womb fascinated by anything but survival.
